Winner of this months American League Pitcher of the Month award is Washington's Dave Wickersham. He went 3-2 in September and finished the month with an ERA of 0.82. He struck out 44 in 44 innings. Dave pitched a shutout as well. His ERA of 2.64 helped him to a 15-9 record this year. He struck out 187 and walked 134 in 252.2 innings. He has 8 complete games and 2 shutouts. Los Angeles (N)'s pitcher Sandy Koufax is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in September. Powell has walked 103 times this year and posts a .370 OBP. While batting .241, 126 for 523, he has driven in 91 runs. He's 10th in the American League in RBIs and 9th in homeruns! St. Louis' leftfielder Lee Maye had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Batter of the Month. Lee pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .374 with 7 and 29 RBI while slugging .747. While compiling an on base percentage of .349, Lee hit .283 and slugged .514. He has collected 109 runs batted in this year.
Thursday 9/29/1969: Cleveland's McAndrew out for 5-6 weeks
CLEVELAND - When it rains, it pours. Cleveland's right-hander Jim McAndrew will not pitch for at least 5-6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Minnesota where he left the field in the 5th inning. After being taken to a local hospital, McAndrew was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle. This season McAndrew compiled an ERA of 5.02, going 1-6 in 10 starts. He fanned 40 while giving up 99 hits in 86 innings.
Wednesday 9/28/1969: Sandy Koufax fires 2-hitter against Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH - Sandy Koufax had some fun again. Pittsburgh hitters did not. Los Angeles (N)'s left-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 8th shutout of the season. He now has 49 career shutouts in 398 games started. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today.' Koufax (22-10) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 2, throwing 122 pitches. Los Angeles (N)'s catcher John Orsino stroked 2 hits in 4 AB. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Koufax. The final score of the game was 2-0.

Don Gile from Minnesota wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Don pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .458 with 2 HR and 10 RBI while slugging .958. San Francisco's leftfielder Frank Robinson had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. In 23 at bats he hit .478 with 2 HR and 10 RBI.
