ATLANTA - Great days are rare. But not for Atlanta's right-hander Aubrey Gatewood. Pittsburgh found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 5th time he has done it in his career. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Gatewood (6-2) fanned 7 and walked 1, throwing 90 pitches. Atlanta's rightfielder Hank Aaron finished with 1 hit in 3 AB, doubling once. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Gatewood. Atlanta scored 2 runs on 4 hits.

The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to California's Mike Epstein this time, as the first baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .500 with 4 RBI and slugged 1.167 in 18 at bats. The National League's best player of the week was Chicago (N)'s Ken Holtzman, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Holtzman was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00. Along the way he struck out 16 in 18 innings. He pitched two shutouts!
