SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's right-hander Dennis Musgraves is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Montreal on just one hit. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 4th time he has done it in his career. Musgraves (7-5) fanned 7 and walked 3, throwing 115 pitches. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' San Francisco's leftfielder Bill D. White stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, homering once, scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Musgraves. The final score of the game was 7-0.
Tuesday 6/7/1970: Tom Seaver pitches 1-hit shutout against San Diego
NEW YORK (N) - New York (N)'s right-hander Tom Seaver is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking San Diego on just one hit. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 4th time he has done it in his career. Seaver (5-6) struck out 4 and walked 6, throwing 73 of 140 pitches for strikes. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' New York (N)'s leftfielder Orlando Cepeda got 2 hits in 4 AB, hitting a homerun, scoring twice and collecting 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Seaver. New York (N) scored 5 runs on 10 hits.
Monday 6/6/1970: Steve Carlton shuts out Oakland on 2 hits
OAKLAND - Steve Carlton had some fun again. Oakland hitters did not. Washington's left-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 2 career shutouts in 44 games started. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Carlton (6-6) fanned 7 and walked none, throwing 104 pitches. Cleon Jones provided Washington with the offense Carlton needed as he finished with 3 hits in 3 AB, with 2 RBI. Washington improved its record to 20-37, scoring 3 runs on 5 hits.
Monday 6/6/1970: New York (A)'s Charles wins Player of the Week award
Ed Charles from New York (A) wins his 4th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Charles helped his team with an average of .464 and 6 RBI in 28 at bats. Rich Reese from Montreal wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. In 21 at bats he hit .429 with 4 HR and 13 RBI. Rich managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. Rich has gone 28 for 159 (.176) this season, hitting 6 longballs and driving in 20 runs. He has scored 12 runs on his own.

CALIFORNIA - Cleveland's right-hander Rich Beck is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. California found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Beck 5th shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 20th shutouts in his career. Beck (9-3) struck out 7 and issued 3 BB, throwing 70 of 117 pitches for strikes. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Cleveland's rightfielder Tony Oliva stroked 2 hits in 3 AB, stroking two 2B's, and collecting 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Beck. The final score of the game was 4-0.
