PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's right-hander John Buzhardt is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Cincinnati found out the hard way, getting just one hit. Buzhardt 3rd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 20th shutouts in his career. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Buzhardt (8-16) struck out 6 and issued 1 BB, throwing 74 of 117 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Pittsburgh was catcher John Ellis, he went 2 for 3, blasting a homerun, with 4 RBI. Saturday 8/20/1970: Houston's Evans severely injured
HOUSTON - Houston's third baseman Darrell Evans will miss about 5 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 8th inning of the game between Houston and Chicago (N). He fielded a ball off the bat of Adolfo Phillips, threw a bullet to first and immediately signaled that he's not OK. Evans was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Bone Chips Elbow. Darrell has gone 89 for 450 (.198) this season, hitting 4 bombs and driving in 41 runs. He has scored 61 runs on his own.

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' right-hander Bob Gibson is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. San Diego found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Gibson 3rd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 64th shutouts in his career. Gibson (20-3) struck out 6 and walked 2, throwing 71 of 115 pitches for strikes. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' CLEVELAND - Cleveland's Tony Oliva suffered a serious injury Wednesday in a game against Washington. Oliva fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 5 weeks. Strained Anterior Cruciate Ligament was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's first baseman Dick Stuart already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. He hit a single in the 3rd off Claude Osteen for number 2000. In 14 years of big league action so far, Dick has compiled a batting average of .260, along with 301 homeruns and 1108 RBI. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.'
