RAW League File Posted!

I don't have a website ready yet, but I am able to share the league file via Google Drive and share the file publicly: docs.google.com/file/d/0B7yFATAmtOXjNmpsWkJheWh5dFU/edit?usp=sharing

Please click on the link and go to File --> Download, unzip the .rar file and save it to your OOTP5 folder. It should be located at "C:\...\OOTP5\HOFFBL.lg\

You will find a very RAW file and, by that, I mean I have NOT made any adjustments to it whatsoever, except for the League Settings. I have not touched the global stats either; so if you decide to play with the file and run a season or two, the stats may be all sorts of wacky. This will be addressed last, after I adjust the rosters and ratings, with your help of course.

The real point of this share is to give you a flavor of the basic framework of your rosters, so feel free to browse it and take notes of your gripes/concerns. Don't panic when you see the free agents; they are real players. The GAMBO file included stats from their time in independent, negro and other minor leagues in the mid to late 1950s. I replaced all pre-1953 stats with LAHMAN's database so as to preserve all career statistics and the league history. This means that all players will have correct career statistics through 1952 (unlike BBSBL), but the free agents will have boosted ratings. I will have to tone them down quite a bit, but not after identifying to which teams they belong to. Only a few players actually play on an affiliated team, so most will remain "free agents."

In the coming weeks, I will begin to make adjustments to the players. This weekend, I intend to make the following adjustments:

* Change all pitchers' potential talent ratings in HR down one slot; right now they all seem to be Brilliant and Good.
* Change all pitchers' potential talent ratings in 2B to be an average of their AVG and HR ratings; right now they are ALL set to "Average"
* Fix all "Mcc" or "o'" surnames
* Shorten all Nicknames

I am able to do these changes by exporting ratings to a csv file and make global changes in EXCEL in one fell swoop. So they should be easy to do. I will keep you guys in the loop.

Do we need something special to unzip the .rar file? My computer doesn't seem to like that file, as I cannot open it or unzip it.

No, any unzip program should do the job like 7-zip or winrar. I use winrar. If you need a zip, I'll redo it tonight!

As long as one of those are free, that will work. I tried to download winzip, but even the free versions wanted me to register. That is more than I'd like to do.

Let me try winrar, or something similar.

winrar is free and fairly lightweight. it will ask you to register, but you don't have to (within 40 days of purchase...blah blah blah)

Once I make my global changes to pitchers and work on the free agents (by toning down and assigning to teams where necessary), I will post a new file (hopefully accompanied by a website with league reports to boot), then I will formally open it up to gripes. Probably in a week or so. I'll keep you posted.

Is our goal to have players with talents (not ratings) that are equal to their career numbers, like we do when creating new prospects in GABL? Or no? Just curious what our end goal on the players is going to be, in case I have time to start looking myself.

Example being somebody that averaged (and I don't have the chart so I'm doing this by memory) 30 HR's a year should have a Brilliant HR rating.  Somebody that hit .290 in his career should have a Good average rating.

Yes, the goal is to slightly modify the potential talent ratings and secondary ratings of the players already on teams, and to a lesser degree, the actual ratings. There will be a several-week-long GRIPE period where each team can post their corrections and players to be added, etc.

Fortunately the GAMBO / Lahman merged database I put together is fairly forgiving and provided some depth to each team (and too much depth I might add for the free agents).

I will create a GRIPES board and in it, a thread for each team along with a introduction thread where I will post the ratings chart I put together.

I need some help downloading this. I can't remember how to get it in to my game. I downloaded WinRAR. I saved the file to a folder on my desktop. If someone wants to do a remote and help me that would be awesome, or shoot me an email, [e-mail]

Matt, do you still need assistance? I will try to summarize it here: open the rar file and in that window, select "hoffbl.lg" and drag it into the "OOTP5" folder with the other league files in there.
