PHILADELPHIA - St. Louis' right-hander Mike Corkins is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Philadelphia on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 6th time he has done it in his career. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Corkins (3-2) fanned 4 and walked 2, throwing 124 pitches. Teolindo Acosta helped Corkins at the plate, he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, stroking a double, and driving in 2 runs. The final score of the game was 4-0.

It's the 1st time that the American League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Minnesota's pitcher Milt Pappas. His record of 4-0 in 5 was among the leagues best this month. In 41 innings of work he allowed just 25 hits while striking out 23, compiling an ERA of just 0.88. Milt got two complete game shutouts as well! New York (N)'s pitcher Gene Brabender is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in April. His record of 3-1 in 5 was among the leagues best this month. In 42.1 innings of work he allowed just 30 hits while striking out 35, compiling an ERA of just 0.43. Gene pitched THREE complete game shutouts!
