Sal Bando wins his 1st Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Sal went 10 for 20 (.500), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 3 RBI. Danny Walton from Atlanta wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Danny went 9 for 16 (.563), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 7 RBI.
Thursday 5/5/1973: 5-hit performance by Chicago (A)'s Art Shamsky
CLEVELAND - 'Wow, five hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said Chicago (A)'s designated hitter Art Shamsky after the 24-4 win over Cleveland. A 405 foot drive to center field marked his 1st hit, a two-run homerun off Nelson Briles in the 5th inning. His 3rd hit, a two-run homerun off John Tsitouris in the 7th inning, landed an estimated 407 feet from home plate. He had singles in the 6th , in the 7th inning and in the 8th . Art did drive in 4 while scoring 3 runs on his own. His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .243.
