Reggie Jackson from New York (A) wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. In 26 at bats he hit .423 with 6 HR and 15 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 7 game hitting streak right now. Bobby Murcer wins his 1st Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Bobby was on fire, hitting .500 with 2 HR and 10 RBI. Murcer has walked 20 times this year and posts a .386 OBP. While batting .301, 41 for 136, he has driven in 25 runs.
Sunday 5/15/1974: Roger Nelson out for 6 weeks
DETROIT - When it rains, it pours. Detroit's right-hander Roger Nelson will not pitch for at least 6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Minnesota where he left the field in the 5th inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Strained Back Muscle. Opposing players hit .180 against Roger this season. While posting an ERA of 2.11 he went 5-2 in 9 starts, fanning 46 and walking 19 hitters.
