MILWAUKEE - Great days are rare. But not for New York (A)'s right-hander Jerry Walker. Milwaukee found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 8th time he has done it in his career. Walker (6-2) struck out 4 and walked 2, throwing 57 of 100 pitches for strikes. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' The hitting star for New York (A) was rightfielder Reggie Jackson, he went 1 for 3, hitting a homerun, with 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 3-0.
Tuesday 5/24/1974: Jon Matlack out for 5-6 weeks
MINNESOTA - Minnesota's lefty Jon Matlack suffered a severe injury on Tuesday and will be out for at least 5-6 weeks. In the 5th of the game against California he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Bone Chips Elbow.
