Friday 8/19/1974: It's NO-NO time for Mel Stottlemyre against Kansas City
CALIFORNIA - Mel Stottlemyre had some fun again. REAL fun. Kansas City hitters did not. California's right-hander fired a no-hitter in his 0th shutout of the season. He now has 25 career shutouts in 360 games started. George Hendrick spoiled the bid for a perfect game when he walked with 2 away in the 5th inning. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches. I'm so happy that it was enough to pitch such a great game.' Stottlemyre (10-8) struck out 2 and walked 4, throwing 56 of 101 pitches for strikes. California's catcher Vic Correll went 3 for 3, homering twice, doubling once, scoring three times and driving in 4 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Stottlemyre. California scored 13 runs on 15 hits.

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' catcher Jim French suffered a serious injury when he was struck by a pitch from New York (N)'s Gene Brabender. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. I had my stuff working very well today.' Kaat (16-9) struck out 7 and issued 1 BB, throwing 76 of 116 pitches for strikes. San Diego's third baseman Bill Madlock finished with 2 hits in 5 AB, homering once, and collecting 3 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Kaat.
