PITTSBURGH - Cesar Cedeno hits 'em where they ain't. Pittsburgh certainly agrees as Cincinnati's centerfielder unloaded four hits and hitting for the cycle. A single in the 1st off Dave Goltz accounted for his 1st hit. In the 3rd inning he unloaded a RBI triple off Dave Goltz. A 373 foot drive to left field marked his 3rd hit, a solo homerun off Dave Goltz in the 5th inning. A pitch from Steve Foucault in the 9th inning left his bat for a double. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Cesar did drive in 3 while scoring 2 runs on his own. He is hitting .285 this season, with 9 HR and 58 RBI. He's now the 41st player in league history to hit for the cycle! Graig Nettles was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 9/20/1974.

KANSAS CITY - Texas' third baseman Graig Nettles accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Kansas City, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .226! A two-run double off Jay Hook in the 2nd inning accounted for his 1st hit. It tied the ballgame at 2. A single in the 4th off Jay Hook accounted for his 2nd hit. Hit number 3 followed in the 5th inning, a RBI triple. His 4th hit, a two-run homerun off Jay Hook in the 7th inning, landed an estimated 408 feet from home plate. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Graig did drive in 6 while scoring 2 runs on his own. His 4 hit performance increases his batting average to .251. He becomes the 40th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. On 4/11/1974, Brooks Robinson was the last player to hit for the cycle.

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's left-hander Dan Schneider is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Chicago (A) on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 15th time he has done it in his career. Schneider (16-10) struck out 3 and issued 1 BB, throwing 57 of 84 pitches for strikes. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today.' The hitting star for Milwaukee was second baseman Roberto Mendez, he stroked 1 hit in 3 AB, and driving in 3 runs. The final score of the game was 5-0.

The American League's best player of the week was California's George Foster, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. In 24 at bats he hit .583 with 3 HR and 7 RBI. CHICAGO (A) - Fritz Peterson took the mound and never left. And Chicago (A) hitters couldn't touch him at all. Oakland's lefty gave up just 2 hits in his 4th shutout of the season. He now has 21 career shutouts in 299 games started. Peterson (22-4) struck out 2 and walked none, throwing 70 of 117 pitches for strikes. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Oakland's leftfielder Joe Rudi got 2 hits in 3 AB. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Peterson. Oakland scored 6 runs on 11 hits.
