Monday 4/18/1975: Detroit's Davey Johnson mashes five hits
DETROIT - Davey Johnson hits 'em where they ain't. Minnesota certainly agrees as Detroit's second baseman unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. His 2nd hit, a GRAND SLAM off Tetsuya Yoneda in the 2nd inning, landed an estimated 325 feet from home plate. A pitch from Claude Raymond in the 6th inning left his bat for a RBI double. In the 7th inning he unloaded a three-run homerun off Claude Raymond. He collected singles in the 1st and in the 8th (one RBI). Davey scored 3 runs, and he collected 9 RBI as well! This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 20 hits in 58 at bats, resulting in a .345 batting average. Detroit scored 18 runs on 20 hits.
