MONTREAL - St. Louis' right-hander Joey Jay already had some highlights in his career, and today he added a historic one as he picked up his 300th career win. Jay went 7 innings. He allowed one earned run , giving up 6 hits while striking out 4 and walking one earned run. His career features a 3.48 ERA, along with 3596 K's in 4691 innings. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!' He has won 20 games 6 times in his career, setting a career high with 23 wins in 1968. The Hall of Fame is already waiting for this great player.
Monday 5/9/1975: Bob Reynolds (BOS) will miss 4-5 weeks
BOSTON - When it rains, it pours. Boston's right-hander Bob Reynolds will not pitch for at least 4-5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Texas where he left the field in the 9th inning. Boston wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Reynolds had suffered a Spasms Back. His ERA of 1.96 helped him to a 5-1 record this year. He struck out 53 and walked 13 in 59.2 innings. Bob has pitched 2 shutouts and 3 complete games. He's 4th in the American League in ERA and 5th in wins!
Monday 5/9/1975: Henderson (OAK) and Carbo (LAN) win P.O.W. award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Ken Henderson, Oakland's starting designated hitter. He hit .529 with 5 RBI and slugged 1.118 in 17 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. Henderson has hit 6 longballs this year while batting .336. He adds 11 doubles, along with 22 runs scored. He's 4th in the American League in batting and 3rd in RBI! Bernie Carbo from Los Angeles (N) wins his 3rd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. He hit .360 with 16 RBI and slugged 1.000 in 25 at bats. This year Carbo drove in 27 and scored 21 runs while batting .254 with 10 taters. He's 1st in the National League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns!
Tuesday 5/3/1975: Texas' Schaal severely injured
TEXAS - Chicago (A)'s Grant Jackson drilled Texas' shortstop Paul Schaal in the 1st inning. He was slow getting up and had to leave the game. Paul Schaal will miss at least 5 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Fractured Wrist. Paul is hitting .189 this year, with 14 hits in 74 at bats. He has driven in 12 runs, slugging .311.
Monday 5/2/1975: Rose Sr. and Santo win Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Detroit's Pete Rose Sr. this time, as the shortstop displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. In 27 at bats he hit .556 with 2 HR and 10 RBI. While compiling an on base percentage of .532, Pete hit .469 and slugged .724. He has collected 19 runs batted in this year. He's 1st in the American League in batting! Ron Santo from Chicago (N) wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. Ron was on fire, hitting .500 with 2 HR and 9 RBI.
Sunday 5/1/1975: Philadelphia's Klages named Pitcher of the Month
Roger Nelson pitched like a legend in April, and the American League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He went 6-1 in April and finished the month with an ERA of 1.57. He struck out 40 in 57.1 innings. Roger pitched THREE complete game shutouts! The best month of April in the National League certainly had Philadelphia's right-hander Fred Klages, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. His record of 4-2 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 52 innings of work he allowed just 35 hits while striking out 35, compiling an ERA of just 1.21. Fred fired two shutouts!

It's the 14th time that the American League Batter of the Month award goes to Detroit's shortstop Pete Rose Sr.. Pete pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .474 with 5 and 19 RBI while slugging .732. The Batter of the Month award in the National League goes to New York (N)'s Chico Salmon this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Salmon helped his team with an average of .357 and 18 RBI in 98 at bats.
Wednesday 4/27/1975: Minnesota's Figueroa out for 6 weeks
MINNESOTA - Minnesota is without its right-hander Ed Figueroa for at least 6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Thurman Munson in a game against New York (A). His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Figueroa was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle. In 5 starts this year Ed struck out 20 batters in 38 innings of work. His ERA is 3.08, his record 2-2.
