NEW YORK (A) - Great days are rare. But not for New York (A)'s right-hander Steve Hargan. Chicago (A) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 16th time he has done it in his career. Hargan (6-6) fanned 4 and walked 2, throwing 111 pitches. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' The hitting star for New York (A) was third baseman Eric Soderholm, he collected 1 hit in 3 trips to the plate, homering once. The final score of the game was 6-0.
Monday 6/6/1975: Player of the Week honors go to Woods and Crawford
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Detroit's third baseman Jim Woods. He had an on base percentage of .583 and hit .524, while driving in 11 runs. The National League's best player of the week was Pittsburgh's Willie Crawford, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Willie went 13 for 29 (.448), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 5 RBI.

MONTREAL - Montreal's centerfielder Fred Lynn suffered a season ending injury when he hurt himself diving for a ball. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. After being taken to a local hospital, Lynn was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Broken Wrist. He has hit 6 longballs while batting .267 this season. ST. LOUIS - San Francisco's offense is struggling, and St. Louis' Dave Goltz didn't help them. The right-hander fired his 2nd shutout of the season, a 2-hitter. Goltz (5-5) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking none, throwing 109 pitches. 'I felt early that I was on top of my game. Fortunately I was able to keep that feeling the entire game.' St. Louis' centerfielder Terry Hughes went 2 for 4. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Goltz. St. Louis scored 2 runs on 10 hits.

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, leftfielder Joe Rudi, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 7 weeks. A pitch from Dock Ellis in the 1st inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 339 feet from home plate in right field. A triple off Dock Ellis in the 3rd inning, accounted for his 2nd hit. A 423 foot drive to right-center marked his 3rd hit, a solo homerun off Dock Ellis in the 5th inning. A pitch from Randy Moffitt in the 6th inning left his bat for a RBI double. A single in the 9th off Paul Splittorff accounted for his 5th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Johnny scored 5 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .290. He becomes the 43rd player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. On 4/7/1975, Larry Bowa was the last player to hit for the cycle.
Wednesday 6/1/1975: Don Gullett out for 7 weeks
HOUSTON - Houston's southpaw Don Gullett suffered a severe injury on Wednesday and will be out for at least 7 weeks. In the 2nd of the game against Philadelphia he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Strained Elbow Ligament which will require surgery. This season Gullett compiled an ERA of 1.77, going 7-2 in 11 starts. He fanned 42 while giving up 49 hits in 86.2 innings. Don has pitched one shutout and 6 complete games. He's 4th in the National League in ERA and 5th in wins!
