Wednesday 6/15/1975: Mike Corkins shuts out Montreal on 2 hits
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's right-hander Mike Corkins is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Montreal found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Corkins 2nd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 19th shutouts in his career. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today.' Corkins (7-7) fanned 6 and walked 1, throwing 117 pitches. Ron Blomberg provided Pittsburgh with the offense Corkins needed as he finished with 1 hit in 4 AB. Pittsburgh improved its record to 29-36, scoring 2 runs on 7 hits.
Wednesday 6/15/1975: Carmen Fanzone clubs five hits in a game
OAKLAND - Carmen Fanzone led Kansas City to a 16-1 win over Oakland by squeezing five hits out of his bat. A 426 foot drive to center field marked his 1st hit, a solo homerun off Alfredo Ortiz in the 2nd inning. Number 3 in the 5th inning, a shot estimated at 425 feet, cleared the wall in right-center. His 4th hit was a two-run double off Grover Powell in the 7th inning. He had singles in the 4th inning and in the 8th (one RBI). Carmen did drive in 7 while scoring 3 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 41 hits in 134 at bats, resulting in a .306 batting average.
Monday 6/13/1975: Player of the Week honors go to Beck and Torre
Kansas City's pitcher Rich Beck had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.52 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .179 against Rich this season. While posting an ERA of 2.92 he went 7-3 in 13 starts, fanning 63 and walking 25 hitters. He has 4 complete games and 3 shutouts. Joe Torre wins his 6th Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 27 at bats he hit .481 with 4 HR and 12 RBI.
Friday 6/10/1975: Atlanta's Chris Krug slams five hits
HOUSTON - 'Wow, five hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said Atlanta's catcher Chris Krug after the 12-11 win over Houston. A RBI double off Jerry Koosman in the 2nd inning accounted for his 1st hit. A pitch from Jerry Koosman in the 5th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 426 feet from home plate in center field. Number 5 in the 9th inning accounted for a double. He had singles in the 3rd and in the 8th . Chris scored 4 runs, and he collected one RBI as well! He is hitting .282 this season, with 5 HR and 17 RBI.

LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s rightfielder Sixto Lezcano will miss at least 5 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. After being taken to a local hospital, Lezcano was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Inflamed Posterior Cruciate Ligament. His season features a batting average of .286 (63 hits in 220 AB), 4 doubles, 2 triples and 6 taters. Lezcano collected 26 RBI and 24 runs as well.
