PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh is without its right-hander Clay Kirby for at least 9-10 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Chico Salmon in a game against New York (N). His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Strained Tricep Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. This season Kirby compiled an ERA of 4.05, going 7-8 in 18 starts. He fanned 87 while giving up 128 hits in 124.1 innings. Clay has pitched 2 shutouts and 5 complete games.
Monday 6/20/1975: Player of the Week honors go to Rose Sr. and Corkins
The American League's best player of the week was Detroit's Pete Rose Sr., who wins the award for the 14th time in his career. He hit .538 with 7 RBI and slugged .769 in 26 at bats. Pete has gone 102 for 249 (.410) this season, hitting 14 homeruns and driving in 48 runs. He has scored 61 runs on his own. He's 1st in the American League in batting, 10th in homeruns and 6th in RBI! The National League Player of the Week award goes to Mike Corkins, one of Pittsburgh's best starting pitchers. Mike went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.50, while fanning 11 in 18 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia is without its left-hander Doug Rau for at least 8-9 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Jim Fregosi in a game against Cincinnati. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Rau was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Pulled Tricep Muscle. Opposing players hit .259 against Doug this season. While posting an ERA of 4.83 he went 5-5 in 14 starts, fanning 56 and walking 55 hitters.
Thursday 6/16/1975: Mickey Lolich dominates Cleveland, gives up just one hit
CALIFORNIA - Mickey Lolich had some fun again. Cleveland hitters did not. California's lefty gave up just one hit in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 26 career shutouts in 374 games started. Lolich (9-5) fanned 7 and walked 4, throwing 126 pitches. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today.' California's designated hitter Bill Melton finished with 2 hits in 3 AB, homering twice, scoring two runs with 4 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Lolich. The final score of the game was 7-0.
