BALTIMORE - Bob Molinaro is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 6 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. In the 7th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Blue Moon Odom. He had singles in the 1st inning (one RBI) , in the 2nd inning , in the 4th inning , in the 5th inning (one RBI) and in the 9th inning . Bob scored 2 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! Monday 9/5/1975: Don Sutton fires 1-hitter against Los Angeles (N)
LOS ANGELES (N) - San Diego's right-hander Don Sutton is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Los Angeles (N) found out the hard way, getting just one hit. Sutton 2nd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 30th shutouts in his career. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Ed Herrmann singled with no outs in the 6th inning. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' Sutton (19-8) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 1, throwing 117 pitches. San Diego's first baseman Earl C. Williams collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, with 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Sutton. San Diego scored 6 runs on 11 hits.

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, centerfielder Mike Rogodzinski, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 5-6 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Inflamed Hamstring Muscle. While compiling an on base percentage of .348, Mike hit .283 and slugged .437. TEXAS - Minnesota's right-hander Ed Figueroa will never forget this day. The 26-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 1-hitter, against Texas on Saturday. Bill Voss spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he singled with two outs in the 6th inning. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Figueroa (11-7) fanned 4 and walked 1, throwing 104 pitches. Minnesota's first baseman Ron Stone collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, and driving in 2 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Figueroa. Minnesota scored 5 runs on 11 hits.
Friday 9/2/1975: Jim Woods punishes Oakland with four hits, cycle
OAKLAND - Detroit's third baseman Jim Woods once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Oakland's pitching staff with a 4 hit performance on Friday. A single in the 2nd off Denny McLain accounted for his 1st hit. His 2nd hit was a triple off Denny McLain in the 4th inning. A pitch from Steve Dunning in the 6th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 396 feet from home plate in left-center. A double off Steve Dunning in the 8th inning accounted for his 4th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Jim did drive in one while scoring 4 runs on his own. His 4 hit performance increases his batting average to .232. He's now the 44th player in league history to hit for the cycle! Johnny Lewis was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 6/2/1975.
