So, do we wait until MLB did it in 1969 or do it earlier in 1962 when we expand from 16 to 20 teams?

As soon as possible.

That would be my vote. If CSCommish doesn't want to entertain the idea until 1962 at the earliest, that would be my vote. But I'd be game for doing it much sooner too. Next year probably isn't fair, but maybe within a couple of seasons.

In 1962, we'll have the following teams:
AL
BAL BOS CHA CLE DET KCA (from Philadelphia) LAA (expansion) MIN (from Washington) NYY WAS (expansion)
NL
CHN CIN HOU (expansion) LAD (from Brooklyn) MIL NYN (expansion) PHI PIT SFG (from New York) STL
If we do it "early," I will be using the following initial alignment
AL East BAL BOS CLE NYY WAS (expansion)
West CHA DET KCA LAA (expansion) MIN
NL East CHN NYN (expansion) PHI PIT STL
West CIN HOU (expansion) LAD MIL SFG
Note that each division would have an expansion team. The following franchise moves and realignments would occur over time:
1966: Los Angeles Angels renamed California Angels; Milwaukee Braves move to Atlanta (remain in NL West) 1968: Kansas City Athletics move to Oakland (remain in AL West) 1969: Detroit Tigers realigned to AL East; Add Kansas City Royals to AL West; Add Seattle Pilots to AL West; Add Montreal Expos to NL East; Add San Diego Padres to NL West 1970: Seattle Pilots move to Milwaukee and become Brewers (remain in AL West) 1972: Milwaukee Brewers realigned to AL East; Washington Senators move to Texas and become Rangers; Texas Rangers realigned to AL West 1977: Add Toronto Blue Jays to AL East; Add Seattle Mariners to AL West 1993: Add Florida Marlins to NL East; Add Colorado Rockies to NL West; Add Central Division; Major Realignment 1997: California Angels renamed Anaheim Angels 1998: Add Tampa Bay Devil Rays to AL East; Detroit Tigers realigned to AL Central; Milwaukee Brewers realigned to NL Central; Add Arizona Diamondbacks to NL West 2005: Anaheim Angels renamed Los Angeles Angels (of Anaheim); Montreal Expos move to Washington and become Nationals (remain in NL East) 2008: Tampa Bay Devil Rays renamed Tampa Bay Rays 2012: Florida Marlins renamed Miami Marlins 2013: Houston Astros move to AL West (check to see if 5-5-5-5-5-5 is possible; custom schedule necessary)
The only changes compared to real life would be the following: 1962-1968: 2 divisions instead of 1 division, 7 seasons early; Detroit would be in the West instead of the East. 1969: Detroit moves from the AL West to the AL East so as to match the 1969 MLB realignment. 1993: 3 divisions instead of 2 divisions, 1 season early

Why not introduce 3 division leagues and wild cards early too then? 24 teams are perfect for that.
They certainly manage to keep more teams involved.

Well, 1962 won, but not in a landslide. 11-5. Close, but I think it's good to go.
1962 it is!
