Sunday 10/30/1975: Bearnarth (DET) and Seaver (NYM) win Cy Young Award
Larry Bearnarth will never forget this year. His dominating season convinced the American League to name Detroit's right-hander the Cy Young Award winner of 1975. This season Bearnarth compiled an ERA of 2.45, going 29-9 in 39 starts. He fanned 138 while giving up 248 hits in 323 innings. Larry has pitched 7 shutouts and 21 complete games. He's 4th in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! Bearnarth wins the award for the 3rd time in his 9-year career. Awards may not be the most important thing for Tom Seaver, but New York (N)'s right-hander smiled as he was named the National League Cy Young Award winner. In 38 starts this year Tom struck out 232 batters in 311.1 innings of work. His ERA is 1.99, his record 25-7. He has 19 complete games and 8 shutouts. He's 1st in the National League in ERA and 2nd in wins!

The Most Valuable Player Award in the American League was handed to Detroit's shortstop Pete Rose Sr.! Rose Sr. has hit for a .355 average this season. He has 53 extra base hits along with 320 total bases, resulting in a .555 slugging percentage. He's 1st in the American League in batting and 9th in RBI! Rose Sr. wins the award for the 6th time in his 12-year career. The 1975 National League Most Valuable Player Award winner has been announced as well. It's San Diego's leftfielder Bobby Murcer who really had a great offensive year. While compiling an on base percentage of .394, Bobby hit .329 and slugged .517. He has collected 100 runs batted in this year. He's 1st in the National League in batting and 6th in RBI!

The 1975 American League Rookie of the Year Award winner is from Chicago (A) this season. Bob Molinaro put together impressive numbers for a rookie en route to win the first major award of his career. Let's hope more will follow for this 25 year old ballplayer. His season numbers are: .270 AVG, 142 hits, 21 doubles, 5 triples and 25 taters, along with 81 RBI and 86 runs scored. Mike Easler was named the National League Rookie of the Year Award winner today. San Francisco's third baseman put up pretty good numbers for a rookie this year. This 24 year old kid will probably have a long and successful career! He has hit 4 bombs while batting .263 this season. His 133 hits and 59 walks add up to a .339 on-base percentage.
