Tuesday 6/7/1976: California's Epstein severely injured
CALIFORNIA - California's first baseman Mike Epstein will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between California and Kansas City. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Epstein collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. After being taken to a local hospital, Epstein was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Torn Calf Muscle. Epstein has walked 20 times this year and posts a .353 OBP. While batting .281, 55 for 196, he has driven in 36 runs.
Monday 6/6/1976: Bert Blyleven dominates Montreal, gives up just one hit
HOUSTON - Great days are rare. But not for Houston's right-hander Bert Blyleven. Montreal found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 19th time he has done it in his career. Blyleven (5-4) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 4. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' Houston's leftfielder Hal McRae went 1 for 3, homering once. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Blyleven. The final score of the game was 1-0.

KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's right-hander Steve Renko suffered a severe injury on Monday and will be out for at least 6 weeks. Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Steve has a record of 6-3 this season, with an ERA of 3.65. In 81.1 Innings he was able to strike out 35 batters.

The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Cincinnati's Ike Brown this time, as the shortstop displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He had an on base percentage of .565 and hit .471, while driving in 10 runs. This year Brown drove in 29 and scored 25 runs while batting .226 with 11 bombs.
