The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Oakland's Craig Swan this time, as the pitcher displayed the best pitching perfomance in his league. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.04 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. It's the 2nd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to San Diego's leftfielder Bobby Murcer. Bobby was on fire, hitting .423 with 4 HR and 10 RBI. He now has homered in 4 consecutive games as well! Murcer has hit 14 longballs this year while batting .322. He adds 19 doubles, along with 56 runs scored. He's 1st in the National League in batting!
Saturday 7/2/1976: Jack Dilauro shuts out Pittsburgh on one hit
PITTSBURGH - Los Angeles (N)'s left-hander Jack Dilauro is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Pittsburgh on just one hit. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 32nd time he has done it in his career. Dilauro (7-10) struck out 2 and walked 2, throwing 52 of 87 pitches for strikes. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today.' Los Angeles (N)'s first baseman Hideji Kato stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, doubling once, with 5 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Dilauro. Friday 7/1/1976: Reynolds and Gullett receive Pitcher of the Month award
Boston's pitcher Bob Reynolds is the American League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in June. His record of 7-0 in 7 was among the leagues best this month.
