Breaking News
Monday 7/11/1976: Kansas City's Healy out for 7 weeks
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's catcher Fran Healy will miss at least 7 weeks after he got hurt seriously in a collision at home plate. He laid on the ground without movement for several minutes and had to be carried off the field. Fractured Wrist was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. He has hit 9 taters while batting .286 this season. His 75 hits and 38 walks add up to a .386 on-base percentage.
Sunday 7/10/1976: Cincinnati has no chance in a NO-HITTER by Sam McDowell
HOUSTON - Houston's left-hander Sam McDowell made some history today, firing a no-hitter against Cincinnati. Their hitters found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, never having a chance against his overpowering stuff. 'Today I just felt great. I had a good feeling while warming up, and I knew something special was about to happen.' McDowell (3-6) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 4, throwing 148 pitches. Dick Allen helped McDowell at the plate, he collected 2 hits in 5 trips to the plate, hitting two dingers, scoring 2 runs and collecting 4 RBI. The final score of the game was 6-0.
Saturday 7/9/1976: Tom Seaver shuts out Chicago (N) on 2 hits
NEW YORK (N) - Tom Seaver took the mound and never left. And Chicago (N) hitters couldn't touch him at all. New York (N)'s right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 5th shutout of the season. He now has 38 career shutouts in 355 games started. Doug DeCinces spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he singled with one out in the 5th inning. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Seaver (11-6) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking none, throwing 112 pitches. New York (N)'s catcher Joe Torre finished with 2 hits in 4 AB, hitting a homerun, and collecting 3 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Seaver. New York (N) improved its record to 41-42, scoring 5 runs on 8 hits.
