The best month of August in the American League certainly had Milwaukee's right-hander Steve Rogers, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. He had an ERA of just 0.95 in 47.1 innings of work in which he struck out 14 hitters. His record in August is 3-1. Steve also fired a shutout. Opposing players hit .196 against Steve this season. While posting an ERA of 2.75 he went 15-7 in 28 starts, fanning 87 and walking 76 hitters. He has 8 complete games and 2 shutouts. Los Angeles (N)'s pitcher Marcelino Lopez is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in August. His record of 4-1 in 8 was among the leagues best this month. PHILADELPHIA - Chicago (N)'s Ron Santo has played the game for ages, now he's finally rewarded with such a prominent feat. He hit three homeruns in a 10-8 win over Philadelphia. Number 1 in the 2nd inning, a shot estimated at 473 feet, cleared the wall in center field. In the 6th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Rick Langford. A pitch from Rick Langford in the 7th inning left his bat for a three-run homerun, landing 356 feet from home plate in left field. Ron stroked 3 hits in 5 AB, scoring three times and driving in 6 runs. So far this season he is batting .279 with 21 homers and 72 RBI. It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Cleveland's pitcher Mark Fidrych. Fidrych was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00. Along the way he struck out 6 in 18 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. It's the 5th time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to New York (N)'s pitcher Gene Brabender.
