Monday 10/3/1976: Harrah (BAL) and Bare (CHN) win P.O.W. award
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Baltimore's second baseman Toby Harrah. Harrah helped his team with an average of .500 and 13 RBI in 26 at bats. This year Harrah drove in 86 and scored 111 runs while batting .255 with 26 homeruns. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Chicago (N)'s Ray Bare this time, as the pitcher displayed the best pitching perfomance in his league. Ray went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.53, while fanning 4 in 17 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .254 against Ray this season. While posting an ERA of 3.03 he went 19-11 in 34 starts, fanning 166 and walking 52 hitters. He has 10 complete games and 5 shutouts. He's 10th in the National League in wins!
Sunday 10/2/1976: Harry Parker dominates New York (A), gives up just 2 hits
NEW YORK (A) - Harry Parker had some fun again. New York (A) hitters did not. Kansas City's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 8 career shutouts in 216 games started. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Parker (18-12) struck out 4 and walked 2, throwing 77 of 120 pitches for strikes. Koichi Tabuchi helped Parker at the plate, he got 1 hit in 1 AB, hitting a homerun, and driving in 3 runs. The final score of the game was 5-0.
