Tuesday 9/6/1977: George Foster found the stroke, smashes three homers
SEATTLE - George Foster can hit'em a long way, and Seattle pitchers couldn't smile about that today. California's centerfielder unloaded three bombs, adding to his reputation of being one of the best power hitters in the game. His 1st shot, off Catfish Hunter in the 3rd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right field. A 374 foot drive to left field marked his 2nd bomb, a solo homerun off Catfish Hunter in the 5th inning. A pitch from Grover Powell in the 9th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 454 feet from home plate in left field. George got 3 hits in 5 AB, scoring three runs with 4 RBI. In 3339 career at bats, he has hit 221 homeruns and collected 624 RBI. On 7/17/1977, Gary Matthews Sr. was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game.
