So we continue our tour of the Atlanta staff today starting with the man behind the plate
Joe Nolan, Catcher
Joe is a quality catcher that plays his position like very few can. His only liability defensively is his arm. Cecil Fielder could steal on him. With a bat though, he is not the typical liability as for the season he batted .306 and earned more walks then he struck out. At age 26, I am sure he will be around for years to come in a Braves uniform.
Amos "A.O." Otis, Rightfield
AO is a man with some speed, a strong arm and a golden glove. You hit it into right field chance are AO will make a play on the ball. At the plate he had another steady year and almost scored 100 runs falling 4 short of his goal. Add in 50 stolen bases for the year and you have one of the players that GM BrianH loves.
Merv Rettenmund, Centerfield
While Merv can make a play on just about anything hit his way, his downside in the outfield are the slow rainbow throws that allow dead grandmas to tag up at third and easily score. He has the ability to go yard against any pitcher and the hitting coach said his talent for hitting HR increased last season making his potential equal to the best HR hitters in the game today. Because of his keen eye at the plate his OBP was a full 100 points better than his 282 batting avg.
Willie Horton, Leftfield
A workhorse in the outfield, with good range, a live arm and pop in the bat, Willie is the kind of guy that goes out and does his job well, day in and day out. All but the fastest have to fear his arm on any fly balls that don't get near the warning track. Willie hit 21 HRs and 96 RBIs for the season and will undoubtedly be back next year to continue his quite days in the sun.
