Pitchers and Catchers report to camp on Sunday and position players will arrive shortly after the planned icebreaker activity that management has on the agenda. "With so many new faces in the rotation and bullpen, spring training will be about getting to know each other more than anything else this year." a source close to the team said. With the new faces comes a renewed sense of hope as the Orioles look to take the next step in their quest for October baseball. Jamieson was seen greeting players as Harry Connick Jr from the movie Hope Floats Sunday afternoon as they arrived at Orioles training facilities in Sarasota, Fl. When asked to reflect on the disappointment of the 1977 season Jamieson quoted the 90s movie saying, "I know exactly what you meant. You're talkin' 'bout the American Dream. You find something that you love, and then you twist it, and you torture it, try and find a way to make money at it. You spend a lifetime doing that. At the end, you can't find a trace of what you started out lovin'. What did you start out lovin'?" He continued in his own voice, "We aren't here to think about '77, we want to focus on the hope of a new season and in the end we believe we can reach the goals that we have set for ourselves."
The fate of the '78 Orioles will be determined in the bullpen. Everyone knows that their bats will produce. The biggest question mark will be how big of an immediate impact can the changes they have made to the bullpen have. Hope is great to have but what this team needs is a much lower WHIP and the ability to hold leads when they get them from the starting rotation.
