Bob Reynolds pitched like a legend in June, and the American League named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. His ERA of just 1.50 helped him to a 6-0 record in June. He worked 48 innings, striking out 28 hitters while walking 6. Bob also fired a shutout. His ERA of 2.13 helped him to a 16-3 record this year. He struck out 89 and walked 41 in 160.1 innings. The best month of June in the National League certainly had San Diego's right-hander Don Sutton, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. ST. LOUIS - U.L. Washington is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. His 1st hit was a two-run triple off Bill Gogolewski in the 3rd inning. His 4th hit, a three-run homerun off Dick Calmus in the 8th inning, cleared the fence in right-center. His 5th hit, off Tom Buskey in the 9th inning, was a GRAND SLAM and cleared the fence in left field. He had singles in the 5th and in the 7th (one RBI). U.L. did drive in 10 while scoring 4 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .301. The final score of the game was 25-0.
Monday 6/27/1978: Bobby Murcer (SDG) will miss 7-8 weeks
SAN DIEGO - San Diego's players were scared when they had to watch Bobby Murcer suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against San Francisco.
