Here we are baseball fans as pennant fever is starting to infect several cities. In the NL after having a small scare the Dodgers have pulled so far ahead in the wildcard chase that it is inconceivable that they will not be the wildcard team. Behind the dominating pitching of Jack Dilauro and Marcelino Lopez they are staged to again enter the postseason for the second straight year. Pittsburg will again win the central with zero effort and again the only team over 500.
San Diego is the team that took it to the next level this year and is thee dominant team of the NL and could easily have 4 pitchers with 20 wins this season, and if it wasn't for the offence taking the day off every time Jaster took the field he would have 20 wins. Couple the completely amazing pitching that has been assembled in SD with the batters they have and you have a juggernaut.
Philly seemingly made a statement and pulled 5 games ahead of Atlanta while Atlanta went 2-8 over the stretch of 10 games, however Philly has returned the favor and gone 2-8 over its last ten, allowing Atlanta to close back to only 3 back.
Meanwhile in the AL, California is still in first with Oakland 32 games back, Detroit is holding a 13 game lead, and Bostons lead is up now to 5 games over Baltimore. Baltimore, Chicago and Milwaukee now are all tied with 79 up and 53 down. This is wild, and I have a feeling the wildcard won't be known until the last day of the season.
Milwaukee is riding the arms of Ruess and Rogers and enjoying the bats of Rudi, Baylor and Mendez.
The AL Juggernaut is Detroit once again tied with SD with 92 wins on the season.
That said, we all know the true number one this day of September 1 1978 is
