File and pages are up; the deadline for roster moves, extensions, releases and reward camps is FRIDAY NIGHT at 80:00 PM EASTERN. I will reverse the career-enders, if there are any, as well. The actual flip will probably be a couple hours later as it takes time to do so.
The off-season is going to take a little longer than usual as I need to do the ammy players. Darryl is going to work on the 1980 file which I'll send shortly.

Thursday 10/27/1978: San Diego's Sutton named Cy Young Award
All the hard work finally paid off for Boston's Bob Reynolds. The right-hander was named the Cy Young Award winner in the American League today. His ERA of 1.81 helped him to a 26-4 record this year. He struck out 150 and walked 67 in 279 innings. Bob has pitched 7 shutouts and 19 complete games. He's 1st in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! Reynolds wins the award for the 2nd time in his 6-year career. Don Sutton was named the National League Cy Young Award winner today. San Diego's right-hander put up fabulous numbers this year which earned him the highest award a pitcher can receive. Don has a record of 24-5 this season, with an ERA of 1.79. In 282.1 Innings he was able to strike out 224 batters. Don has pitched 8 shutouts and 19 complete games. He's 1st in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins! Sutton wins the award for the 2nd time in his 10-year career.

A season for the ages earned Detroit's leftfielder Charlie Spikes the American League Most Valuable Player Award this year. This year Spikes drove in 132 and scored 131 runs while batting .321 with 32 longballs. He's 5th in the American League in batting, 6th in homeruns and 2nd in RBI! A season for the ages earned San Diego's centerfielder Gorman Thomas the National League Most Valuable Player Award this year. Gorman is hitting .336 this year, with 196 hits in 583 at bats. He has driven in 138 runs, slugging .556. He's 1st in the National League in batting, 5th in homeruns and 1st in RBI!

Willie Randolph will never forget his first full season. The American League was convinced that Minnesota's shortstop, 24 years old, should be the Rookie of the Year Award winner of 1978. While compiling an on base percentage of .399, Willie hit .302 and slugged .418. He has collected 56 runs batted in this year. The 1978 National League Rookie of the Year Award winner is from St. Louis this season. Jack Clark put together impressive numbers for a rookie en route to win the first major award of his career. Let's hope more will follow for this 22 year old ballplayer. While compiling an on base percentage of .396, Jack hit .317 and slugged .485. He has collected 80 runs batted in this year. He's 7th in the National League in batting!
