So to begin brianh's 3rd off season as the man guiding the Braves future, while not particularly active, he has made quite the splash this year landing the best SP out there and bringing in what was thought was just an offensive minded catcher.
First up is the former Royal, 31 year old Harry Parker
While his career in KC hasn't been overly amazing, the kid has the stuff of a dominating pitcher. While only accruing a 106-113 record in 9 seasons, much of that can be attributed to a porous defense that lined up behind him.
The Braves bring him in on a one year deal to see if he is what his agent claims. If he dominates he will get inked to a multi year deal, and if not... he may end up in San Diego.
Next up is the FA acquisition C Steve Yeager that left Seattle after no attempt to keep him happy there.
While many saw him as just a DH that knew how to put on a catchers mask, according to a conversation overheard in the clubhouse when the Coach said the same thing, brianh replied "his fundamentals are off, I met a guy in NYC last Sept that should be able to help him"
Turns out the guy he was referring to is none other than the best catcher ever, Yogi Berra, who recently landed and has started working with Yeager on his form behind the plate. If the preliminary workouts are any indications, Steve will be much improved behind the plate this year.
In other off-season news the Coach confirmed, Dale Murphy and Mookie Wilson will be on the opening day roster.
I gotta tell you Braves fans, I am really looking forward to seeing how these 79 Braves perform on the field.
