Hey Braves fans, welcome to another Draft Day recap. As you all are probably aware, the Braves again had 2 first round picks and they got off to a great start with getting the amazing yougster that plays every outfield position, Otis Nixon. On top of being an outstanding defender no matter where in the outfield he plays, Otis has some speed, and will be easily able to steal bases once he hits the bigs. Otis' one downfall is his ability to get the ball in from the outfield... there will be no frozen ropes coming from him. Next up in the first, the Braves took Kelly Downs, straight out of high school. Kelly has all the tools to possibly be an amazing pitcher in the league, including the fact, getting a ball into the air against him is pretty dang improbable... Seems the GM was talking about possibly getting a pitcher. Rumor has it, Sax was gonna be the Atlanta pick but he was taking the pick before. In the second, Atlanta took C Dave Valle From what we have seen of him, he looks to be the heir apparent to Gary Allenson, that will take over for S Yeager once he slows down. Like Allenson, he is a great defensive catcher with a good arm and with some work in the cage could become a good hitter. To round out the top three rounds, is the relief pitcher Mark Ross He is a bit of a long shot to make the majors, but with a bit of work he could become an OK middle reliever, for when the games are not close.
