Monday 6/13/1979: Foster and Colbert win Player of the Week award
George Foster from California wins his 5th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. In 28 at bats he hit .429 with 5 HR and 10 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 9 game hitting streak right now. The National League's best player of the week was Philadelphia's Nate Colbert, who wins the award for the 5th time in his career. Nate was on fire, hitting .480 with 3 HR and 9 RBI. While compiling an on base percentage of .352, Nate hit .266 and slugged .498. He has collected 37 runs batted in this year.
Thursday 6/9/1979: Kansas City's Renko out for full season
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's right-hander Steve Renko will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Oakland on Thursday. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. In 11 starts this year Steve struck out 29 batters in 56.2 innings of work. His ERA is 5.08, his record 4-3.
