Well baseball fans, rumors coming out of Braves head office is that out of seven players with contracts expiring, all of them may end up as free agents.
The most notable name on the list is Harry Parker, Starting Pitcher. Harry started the season on fire, and from what we heard brianh started thinking about locking him down to a long term contract, but then his on the field performance started being questionable at best, and in their brief talks, Harry has maintained he wants a raise from his already huge contract. This has left brianh saying, eh we got Robinson waiting to pitch so f*** it, why break the bank for a guy that doesn't dominate every game.
15 million
Jim "Red" McGlothlin, Starting Pitcher, will likely not be signed, and it has brianh feeling kinda bad, but with his age, signing him to what he is asking is just too risky for the continued financial success of the organization, plus we have Fulgham waiting to get into the rotation. Jim has had an amazing 79 season with us, unfortunately we have to move forward with younger players.
4 million
The one guy we've been hearing that might be resigned is Jay Johnstone, Centerfield. He is such an amazing defensive player in the outfield, and still in his early 30's that even at 2.3 million, he's a backup worth keeping. Currently making 1.9 million, I'm sure in the next couple weeks we will know for sure.
Billy McCool, Reliever is another victim of making room for younger guys. Too many kids that are ready that are just as good as him to keep him around especially with the size of the raise he asked for. At 35 just too old to invest that kind of money in when he isn't a top notch dominating reliever.
1.8 million
Syd O'Brien, Second Base has had three SOLID years with Atlanta including being an all star in 77, but the time has come to move onto the future of Braves 2nd basemen, with the speedy Alan Wiggins ready to ascend to the majors, Syd will sadly not be returning. On the bright side, with this team if they can get on a roll when the playoffs start, who knows what parting gift he might get.
1.6 million
Bosman and Monzon aren't even in the majors so it's absolutely no surprise they aren't being resigned
1.3 million
If Jay is kept it'll lower payroll by 21.5 million, if he is let go to FA, it'll lower it by 25.6 million, which will help the Braves pay off the stadium upgrades before all the youngsters start getting their paydays in the majors.
and now, what we know everyone tunes into our show for
The Number one song in the land is:
