Well baseball fans, here we are at the end of the 1979 season, with one series ahead of us, the Detroit Tigers versus the upstart Atlanta Braves. In the prototypical setting of David versus Goliath, we have the Braves as huge underdogs in this series. One of their biggest advantages over other teams is their speed, where they were #2 in the league in stolen bases, second only to... the Tigers.
Detroit: Runs per game: 5.5 Runs allowed per game: 3.52 HR's: 149 HR's allowed: 131 ERA: 3.14
Atlanta:
Runs per game : 4.55 Runs allowed per game : 3.74 HR's : 136 HR's allowed: 130
ERA: 3.30
Atlanta is without their best all around catcher and, Mr. October is being read his last rites for his nick name, so everything screams this is going to be another Detroit WS. As a member of the press, we are suppose to be impartial, but there is a spot in my heart that would like to see the Braves reward their fans for so many seasons of not making it to the WS (26 to be exact) and finally bring home a ticker tape parade, alas, that is probably not going to happen. End result Brave fans, enjoy the games, as the pitchers will go out and give it all their heart, these games will be fun to watch.
In the end, one team will win, and the other will be listening to the hit by the eagles that is currently climbing the charts:
