Cubs trade SP-Howie Pollett to the Giants for SP-Curt Barclay, SS-Daryl Robertson and 3B-Billy Gardner.
As much as I like Pollett, he's a soon to be 34 year old SP that won't fit in to our plans by the time we're going to be ready to win. I really like Barclay, although the injury is a little concerning. I think with some work he can be a middle of the rotation guy. Robertson is very young, plays good D and has some speed, so certainly worth taking a flyer on, and Gardner will be a solid UT bat going forward.
This trade essentially ends up being Whitey Herzog for Barclay, Robertson and Gardner. Even with Herzog's PD increase I'd make that trade all day. Barclay can get bumped to G in hits and be worth more than a singles hitting OF with no speed imho. I get 3 cost controlled guys for one.
It's a process Cubs fans, a process.
