Virgil Jr. helped his team with an average of .500 and 12 RBI in 22 at bats. This year Virgil Jr. drove in 31 and scored 21 runs while batting .248 with 9 homeruns.

It's his 4th shutout this season, and the 17th time he has done it in his career. Swan (7-2) struck out 5 and issued 1 BB, throwing 60 of 99 pitches for strikes. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' Oakland's catcher Thurman Munson finished 2 for 4. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Swan. Oakland scored 2 runs on 9 hits.

Saturday 5/14/1980: Dave Collins out for 5 weeks
CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A)'s season has taken a hit after one of their best players, centerfielder Dave Collins, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 5 weeks. This year Collins drove in 16 and scored 32 runs while batting .317 with 3 taters.
Friday 5/13/1980: Sachio Kinugasa nabs five hits against Oakland
OAKLAND - 'You know, in batting practice I didn't really feel that comfortable about my stroke today, but baseball is more than hitting. Then, when you're not trying to force a hit, you slug them in droves,' says Sachio Kinugasa after his 5 hit game, which Kansas City won 9-1 against Oakland. His 1st hit, a two-run homerun off Ron Bryant in the 2nd inning, cleared the fence in left-center. Number 2 in the 3rd inning, a shot estimated at 435 feet, cleared the wall in left field. In the 9th inning he belted a two-run double off Dick Mills. He collected singles in the 5th inning and in the 7th inning . Sachio scored 3 runs, and he collected 7 RBI as well! He now has 31 career shutouts in 221 games started. Willie McGee spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he tripled with two outs in the 5th inning. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Reynolds (6-3) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking none, throwing 104 pitches. Jeffrey Leonard provided San Francisco with the offense Reynolds needed as he finished 1 for 4, hitting a double, and driving in 3 runs. The final score of the game was 3-0.
Wednesday 5/11/1980: Steve Brye clubs three rockets
BOSTON - Steve Brye was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered New York (A) to a 29-2 win over Boston by homering three times.
