SEATTLE - Milwaukee beat Seattle 14-3, but that was not the real story of the game. Keith Hernandez was, as he went deep three times. In the 1st inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Bill Dancy. A pitch from Luis Aponte in the 6th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 359 feet from home plate in right field. A 435 foot drive to right field marked his 3rd bomb, a solo homerun off Frank LaCorte in the 9th inning. Keith collected 4 hits in 6 trips to the plate, scoring three runs and collecting 5 RBI. His homerun total this year is 25, along with 114 RBI.
Monday 9/26/1980: Oakland's Staub wins Player of the Week award
It's the 2nd time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Oakland's third baseman Rusty Staub. He had an on base percentage of .548 and hit .481, while driving in 10 runs. MINNESOTA - New York (A)'s first baseman Darrell Evans once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Minnesota's pitching staff with a 4 hit performance on Saturday. His 2nd hit, off Joe H. Coleman in the 3rd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. A single in the 5th off Joe H. Coleman accounted for his 3rd hit. His 4th hit was a RBI double off Jim M. Hughes in the 7th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face!
