So Baseball fans, it is that time of year again, when all eyes are on the October skys for the perennial fall classic that is Americas past time, MLB Baseballs playoffs.
This year we have two new teams from last year, with the Yankees once again on top of the AL East after last winning the division in 74. Joining them is the new NL Central champ, the Cardinals that last won their division in 73.
Both teams have daunting tasks ahead of them in the first round of these games of the Divisions series. Will either come out to advance to their respective Championship series?
One of the two Division series this year that bring a fresh face to the playoffs versus the Leagues powerhouse of the year. Detroit, as Detroit has done for several seasons rolled through the regular season racking up win after win. The Yankees took the East after everyone else decided to rebuild or continue rebuilding.
The Yankees top trio come in with a combined 47 - 32 record and an era of about 3.97 Meanwhile Detroit will be sending up a trio with a 65 - 17 record.
Detroit comes in with the number 1 scoring offence in the entire league, however they are the only team that scored more than the Yankees. Bat for bat the Yankees can go yard at every positions and lead the league in team home runs. Should be interesting to see if they can victimize any of Detroit's pitchers.
In another year of nothing in the West, the Angles once again made the playoffs to take on the WhiteSox that came close to having four 20 game winners. California will undoubtedly revert to a three man rotation after using a 4 man for most of the season, and with their ability to go yard, this series could easily see either team advance. The WhiteSox have more depth, but in the era of a 5 game series deapth doesn't always matter.
SFran has a couple pitchers dinged up heading into the divisional series, and that could be what could open the door for the mighty St Louis offence to inflict enough damage to counter San Frans lineup that is known as murders row, as they absolutely murder pitchers. Right before the trade deadline, St Louis added another amazing pitcher from Baltimore to give them an extremely effective 1 2 3 for the playoffs. Time will tell if they can keep the Giant bats at bay.
For the second straight year, the Braves start on the road in San Diego to start the playoffs, last years rag tag crew managed to make it to the WS, does this bunch of misfits have the ability to match last years underdawg performance? One thing they have going for them is the acquisition of Tom Seaver, but will he be enough to offset some of the greatest hitters in baseball, and will there be enough offence out of the Braves against the trio of pitchers that San Diego send out? The Braves are on a historic win streak, can they keep it going?
