Well it's that time of the year to go over the Braves pitchers
T Housman, could have and should have been the Cy Young winner, 19-10 and a 1.8 era, no one dominated like Tom, alas, is run support was a tad lacking. Holding opposing batters to sub 200 hitting and only giving up a walk every 5 innings, it was near impossible to get on base when Tom toke the mound.
Tom Seaver was a late season addition and from the time he joined the team until the playoffs, the Braves didn't loose a game he started. Finishing the season at 20-10, with the team he has around him now, he should have several more 20 win seasons in Atlanta.
Jon Matlack has been in the league for a while, but seemed to find new life and purpose late into the season with the help of the new pitching coach, he found something new in his abilities, and hitters were even more befuddled with him on the mound. If he maintains his progress into 81, the regular season should be just practice for the 81 playoffs for the Braves.
Rookie of the year Don Robinson came close to getting 20 wins in his first season. He was nothing less than phenomenal on the mound with a paltry 3.11 ERA. He is set in stone as part of the top four of the rotation, and the coaches think he hasn't yet finished developing his skills on the mound.
After 14 years, it looks like the amazing career of Pat Dobson is finally coming to a close in Atlanta. 224 wins, 28 shutouts, and 156 complete games, when Pat was on the mound the Braves always had a chance. +66 on wins, Pat is one of the best pitchers to play over the last 14 years, and he will be greatly missed by the fans, and he is and has been the rock the team rallied around.
Closer Doug Corbett had a dip in productions blowing 5 saves in the first half of the year, but rebounded nicely down the stretch with only 2 blown saves after the all star break and finished with his second straight 10 win season finished second in the league with 38 saves.
Paul Hartzell had another solid year, but looks to be the odd man out with Seaver coming to town. It'll be between the other rookie sensation J Folgham as to who will be the number 5 starter. When asked about all the pitchers the Braves have that can give quality starts, the Skipper winked and said "it sucks having all these guys that I can insert at a moments notice" and he then walked to the locker room.
