The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to California's Gene Clines this time, as the shortstop displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. ATLANTA - Atlanta's shortstop Alan Wiggins suffered a season ending injury when he hurt himself firing a ball to first base. He collapsed in pain after the throw and was helped off the field. After being taken to a local hospital, Wiggins was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Ruptured Disc Back. Wiggins has hit for a .251 average this season. He has 10 extra base hits along with 64 total bases, resulting in a .315 slugging percentage.
Friday 6/24/1981: Don Hood (LAN) will miss 9 weeks
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s ace Don Hood suffered a severe injury on Friday and will be out for at least 9 weeks. In the 2nd of the game against Philadelphia he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Tricep Muscle.
