The veteran additions the Dodgers made this offseason appear to be paying dividends early in the season. The league recently announced the batter and pitcher of the month, and in the NL the awards were both handed to Dodgers. Both winners were signed this offseason to provide some veteran leadership to a young squad.
From the league office:
Sunday 5/1/1982: Sutton (LAN) win monthly pitcher award
Los Angeles (N)'s pitcher Don Sutton is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in April. He had an ERA of just 0.94 in 48 innings of work in which he struck out 34 hitters. His record in April is 4-0. Don pitched a shutout as well.
Sunday 5/1/1982: Los Angeles (N)'s Cey earns Batter of the Month award
Los Angeles (N)'s third baseman Ron Cey had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Batter of the Month. In 93 at bats he hit .344 with 6 HR and 27 RBI.
The Dodgers would like to congratulate both Don Sutton and Ron Cey on their early accomplishments and look forward to more productive months ahead.
