After just going through this process, I wondered why there is a June 1 deadline for fan interest boosts associated with the call-ups of top prospects. It seems to me that the fans would be excited when a top prospect is promoted, whether that be opening day or as a September call-up. If it a late-season call-up, the GM is just hurting themselves as they lose most of a year of player control, so I can't see any advantage that can be gained by calling up a top prospect later in the season. So, why not just allow the fan interest boost whenever it occurs? Makes the rule simpler.
If we want to go a step further, I don't think we need to stick to the opening day list either. If the player is a top-15 batter or pitcher in the file at the time of call-up, they should be eligible. It does not seem to be hard for commish to track, just look at the current top prospect page instead of the thread showing the status on opening day.
Thoughts?

I can see removing the date restriction, but I think you've got to go by one list all season.
According to the current top prospect list only 1 guy in the top 100 has been called up all season?
OOTP is too fickle with ratings of prospects changing if they struggle.

Von Hayes was in the 20s when I called him up, now he is no longer on the list.

But I can see your overall point...the list does get stale though. Perhaps a refresh at the All-Star break?

Because you have to keep the guy up all season and that’s a lot easier if you call him up in Aug than it is if you call him up in May. Case in point: I called up Candiotti and got the FI bump. But he’s been terrible in the majors, and now I have to decide if I want to keep rostering him as a mop up guy or send him down and take the FI hit.

I am sure we could come up with another way to require the player to be in the majors for a certain amount of time.

Could be a staggered system. Callups from Opening Day to 6/1 is 100% of value. Then 6/2 to 7/31 is 75% of value. 8/1 and on is 50%.
Dunno. More work, but is possible.

Instead of staggered system, how about the players remains in majors for remainder of season AND must be on opening day roster the next year. I still think the Fan Interest boost that would come with a September call-up is not worth losing a year of player control for one of the top prospects in the game.

Because calling up a guy for one sim (OD) is easy? I don’t love the rule either, but I get it, and all this stuff seems designed to undercut it.

Well, then you are squandering two years of player control and $300k salaries for a elite prospect in exchange for a 10-point fan interest bump...why would anyone do that?

Move it to July 1 and use the same list. You've got a better idea of if you're in the race and might call up someone?
Otherwise leave it alone, because it's going to be too annoying to police.

Depends how close the guy is to MLB, obviously...but still.

I think for now, I'll extend June 1st to July 31st --- same as trade deadline.
