The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Boston's Fred Lynn this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Lynn helped his team with an average of .611 and 2 RBI in 18 at bats. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Gene Clines, Montreal's starting shortstop. He hit .450 with 5 RBI and slugged .850 in 20 at bats. Gene has gone 40 for 135 (.296) this season, hitting 4 bombs and driving in 14 runs. He has scored 18 runs on his own.
Thursday 5/5/1983: Mike T. Stanton out for 5 weeks
HOUSTON - Houston's right-hander Mike T. Stanton suffered a severe injury on Thursday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 5th of the game against St. Louis he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being taken to a local hospital, Stanton was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Strained Bicep Muscle. This season Stanton compiled an ERA of 4.15, going 1-1 in 0 starts. He fanned 17 while giving up 23 hits in 21.2 innings.
