Saturday 7/30/1983: Claudell Washington stars with cycle against Seattle
OAKLAND - Claudell Washington led Oakland to a 9-7 win over Seattle by squeezing four hits out of his bat. That's not the best part, though. He hit for the cycle as well! A pitch from Len Barker in the 1st inning left his bat for a triple. A single in the 2nd off Len Barker accounted for his 2nd hit. His 3rd hit, a solo homerun off Doug Mansolino in the 6th inning, cleared the fence in right field. In the 8th inning he belted a double off Bill Dancy. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Claudell scored 2 runs, and he collected one RBI as well! His 4 hit performance increases his batting average to .294. He becomes the 60th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. Chet Lemon was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 8/27/1982.
