Well History fans, Reggie finally did it. Entering the season needing 12 HR and 30 SB, he got to the plateau on July 5th. Among his accomplishments he has now joined Mantle and Mays as the only guy to have 500 homers and 500 steals who's last name didn't start with an M
A long time Yankee and in his first 8 yrs as a Yank he pounded 269 homers and had 223 stolen bases with them.
1978 began the journeyman portion of his career, playing for NYY, HOU, StL and finally settling in his home of Atl with the team that needed him as much as he needed a true home.
With the Braves he lead the league in HR's 3 straight years 80-82, had three 40 HR / 40 SB seasons 79-81, and four 30/30 seasons 79-82.
Currently he is 9th all time in HR, 23rd in rbi's, 20th in triples and needs 60 more to crack the top 25 in SB's
Reggie recently said he is so grateful for the chance to come to Atlanta as otherwise he would have never got his WS ring as he knew early on in his playing in StL their GM only saw him as a piece of meat that would be traded away to the first suitor, the one that was the highest bidder.
Prior to coming to the Braves Reggie thought he would never get a WS ring, and had realized they call it the Blues for a reason
