Monday 4/18/1985: Player of the Week honors go to Ashby and Guerrero
It's the 2nd time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Cleveland's catcher Alan Ashby. Ashby helped his team with an average of .448 and 5 RBI in 29 at bats. Ashby has hit 2 homeruns this year while batting .328. He adds 4 doubles, along with 11 runs scored. Pedro Guerrero from Los Angeles (N) wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. In 30 at bats he hit .400 with 3 HR and 8 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 11 game hitting streak right now. Guerrero has hit 3 bombs this year while batting .364. He adds 2 doubles, along with 11 runs scored. He's 5th in the National League in batting!
Wednesday 4/13/1985: Montreal's Sharp severely injured
MONTREAL - Montreal's leftfielder Bill Sharp hurt himself in the 8th inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Bill Sharp will miss at least 4 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Broken Ribs which will require surgery.
Monday 4/11/1985: Houston's Arroyo wins Player of the Week award
Boston's first baseman Cecil Cooper had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. He hit .556 with 5 RBI and slugged .778 in 27 at bats. This year Cooper drove in 5 and scored 7 runs while batting .531 with one homerun. He's 1st in the American League in batting! Houston's pitcher Fernando Arroyo had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Fernando went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.13, while fanning 8 in 16 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well.
Sunday 4/10/1985: Toronto's Reynolds out for 4-5 weeks
TORONTO - Toronto's right-hander Bob Reynolds suffered a severe injury on Sunday and will be out for at least 4-5 weeks. In the 8th of the game against Cleveland he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Elbow Ligament.
