SEATTLE - Boston's players had every reason to congratulate Cecil Cooper, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! In 13 years of big league action so far, Cecil has compiled a batting average of .283, along with 207 homeruns and 1025 RBI. 'I still remember my first hit. But the one today is something special. I'll definitely keep that ball!' He hit a single in the 3rd off Frank Tanana for number 2000.

NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s leftfielder Dwayne Murphy will miss about entire career after he hurt himself badly in the 1st inning of the game between New York (A) and California. He dove for a drive off the bat of Paul Dade, and immediately signaled that he's not OK after hitting the ground. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Rib Cage Muscle which will require surgery. Dwayne is hitting .241 this year, with 34 hits in 141 at bats. He has driven in 22 runs, slugging .461.
Tuesday 5/17/1985: George Brett has 2000th career hits
TORONTO - Kansas City's George Brett showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against Toronto on Tuesday. With one out in the 8th inning, George drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. His best year so far was 1980 where he hit .322 with 30 homeruns and 120 RBI. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.'
