Jeff Calhoun is following up his NL ROY campaign in style, winning the NL pitcher of the month award for June and earning his first All-Star berth. Calhoun is 10-3 with a 0.91 WHIP and 1.78 ERA. He has 15 quality starts in 16 attempts with 3 complete games and 2 shutouts. In 112 innings in the seasons first half, he has allowed 68 hits, 34 bb and struck out 64.
Roy J Thomas earned his 3rd career, and 3rd consecutive, All-Star berth after deciding to sign an extension to remain in LA. That has turned out to be money well spent for the Dodgers as all 3 of his All-Star appearances as well as his postseason MVP have come since he inked his 5 year, $36.25 million deal to remain in LA. Thomas is 11-3 with a 1.11 WHIP and 3.09 ERA in the first half. He has 12 quality starts in 16 attempts with 3 complete games and 1 shutout. Joining them is first time All-Star second baseman Bill Doran. Bill was acquired from the Giants in 1979 and has become a building block for the Dodgers. Bill is slashing .291, .361, .481 for a career high .842 ops. He has 22 2b, 4 3b, 8 hr with 46 rbi and 52 runs scored in 285 ab. He has also stolen 24 bases while being caught 9 times and playing gold glove caliber defense with a range factor of 5.22 and a .987 F% with a strong all around game.
