-- Boston, MA A lot of rumors were going around if Boston was going to stretch it's payroll and make a move to bring in a big piece to kick off the pennant race, especially with the acquisitions of division rival and leader New York Yankees. The answer is an emphatic "We're going for it all" with the addition of 37 year old Tom Hall, still a top pitcher in the game, and soon to be known as an all time great when he hangs it up. The Yankees added CL Jay Howell, CF Mike Rogodzinksi, and SP David Wells among others. The Red Sox felt they had to do something to keep up, especially after the insult of adding such a recently prominent Red Sox fixture that was Rogodzinski. That's when the FO saw California was selling and handed every prospect left in their struggling system to get this done.
Hall has done one thing that the Red Sox love, and that's win when it matters Hall has amassed 346 career wins with a 2.54 ERA, 2 Cy Young Awards, and most importantly, 2 World Series rings. Bringing in a man who's been to the top of the mountain was a big part of why the Red Sox felt this was a good move. While Hall's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, the Red Sox front office are definitely interested in trying to work something out to let him pitch here for at least another couple years and chase that magic number of 422, something he could be ~60 wins from by the end of the season. With good work ethic and some luck, a 40 year old Tom Hall could be within reach of the record.
